What Are Pergolas?

What Are Pergolas?Although an outdoor space that has been maintained well can be incredibly beautiful on its own, many designers agree that adding a level of verticality can enhance the beauty of any space. Additionally, you may find yourself in need of a light structure that provides a little shade.

If you want full shade, a gazebo may be what your mind first jumps to. However, another option is to take a look at pergolas.

Pergolas are raised structures, similar in size to gazebos, but closer in construction to arbors. They are usually made up of a latticework of wooden beams, often with the intention of allowing vining plants to grow up them and fill in the gaps. Depending on your preferences, pergolas can provide minimal shade while still being a statement piece and a way to visually organize your outdoor space, or they can be beautiful leafy sanctuaries, letting the sun in as dappled light the same way it would if you and your guests were under a natural canopy.

This is only a description of a standard pergola, though. Here at Superior Outdoor Spaces, we are proud to build custom pergolas that are made to fit your specifications and particular needs. If you would like more gazebo-like features, a wider-than-average footprint, or any other modifications to the standard pergola design, all you need to do is ask.
